Post Icon

How are humans formed? What factors shape our identities as humans? And what practices lend themselves to human and spiritual formation? Academic disciplines answer this question in increasingly different ways. Yet how we understand human formation affects everything.

Join us as we advance the conversation at our second-annual Exploring Personhood conference, presented by the L. Russ Bush Center for Faith and Culture at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary on Feb. 2-3, 2023.

In this post, get to know one of our speakers, Dr. Andy Davis.

Lecture Topic

The End of Formation

The title “The End of Formation” refers to the goal of everything God is doing in all Christians, namely, to conform them totally and perfectly to Christ (Romans 8:29-30). To be “glorified” means to be conformed to Christ—to his mind, his heart, his affections, his will, his emotions, and indeed, his glorious resurrection body. That means we will spend eternity in Christlike perfection. The more we meditate on this final purpose based on Scripture, the more powerful it will become in us now. It has power to compel us to put sin to death and grow in Christlike virtues every day by the power of the Holy Spirit. And the Spirit’s presence in our lives is the guarantee of that final purpose being achieved, as well as the power to take us there.
