What things must Christians reclaim?

Rebecca Mclaughlin joined us on September 15 at 7pm to deliver our annual Drummond Bush Lecture. The Drummond Bush Lecture was established in 2011 and made possible by a generous gift from Mrs. Drummond in memory of her late husband Dr. Lewis Drummond, fourth president of SEBTS (1988-1992). The Drummond-Bush lecture series honors Dr. L. Russ Bush, who at the time of his death was professor of Philosophy at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and director of the L. Russ Bush Center for Faith and Culture. The lecture series addresses apologetic and cultural issues related to the life and ministry of the Church.

Rebecca McLaughlin holds a Ph.D. in Renaissance Literature from Cambridge University and a theology degree from Oak Hill College in London. She is the author of Confronting Christianity: 12 Hard Questions for the World’s Largest Religion (2019), which was named book of the year by Christianity Today, and of 10 Questions Every Teen Should Ask (and Answer) about Christianity (2021), The Secular Creed: Engaging 5 Contemporary Claims (2021), and Is Christmas Unbelievable? Four Questions Everyone Should Ask About the World’s Most Famous Story (2021). She lives in Cambridge Massachusetts with her husband Bryan, and their three children.

Let's not let Satan lie to us that God's withholding good things from us.

  • “Christianity is by far the most diverse religion in the world, as well as the largest…. Christianity is the belief system of diversity.”
  • “We need to reclaim the university and to piece back together all the pieces of knowledge that have become disintegrated.”
  • “Christianity isn’t anti-intellectual. It’s the greatest intellectual movement in human history.”
  • “Marriage is meant to point us to Christ. But it’s also meant to disappoint us, because even the best human marriage can only be a tiny echo of Christ’s love for us.”
  • “Don’t let Satan tempt you to believe you need to struggle alone…. Let’s not let Satan lie to us that God’s withholding good things from us.”
