Jesus really is a person who lived at a particular time and at a particular place and accomplished particular things.
Why we need to get the details of the Christmas story right?
“It anchors the gospel in history. It let’s us know that Jesus really is a person who lived at a particular time and at a particular place and accomplished particular things. Those things are so very important.”
On the significance of the shepherds and wise men.
“God can surprise us… God meets people where they’re at.”
On God reaching out to the magi.
“God spoke to them through events of nature. Here were men who were not in the promised land, they were not people of the covenant. And yet it lets us know because they were outside who we would consider to be the people of God, God still loved them. God still communicated to them. God still reached to them and made sure they knew about what had occurred.”
On Herod’s ‘false profession of faith’
“Herod is a crafty fellow. He is quite cunning. In fact I think we could say that Herod may have been the first false profession of faith in the Bible.”
