This summer we want to help you craft the perfect Summer Reading List. We asked Southeastern Seminary professors what books they would recommend, and we’re sharing their recommendations.

Today, Dr. David W. Jones recommends a book for your summer reading list.

Many believers are not aware of the great work God is doing in the Muslim world.

Standing in the Fire: Courageous Christians Living in Frightening Times
by Tom Doyle (Thomas Nelson, 2017)

Many believers are not aware of the great work God is doing in the Muslim world. In this volume, Doyle offers a look at what it costs Muslim background believers to worship Jesus in their own context.

Hope for All the Earth: Understanding the Story of the Old Testament
by Mitchell Chase (10Publishing, 2022)

Too often Christians view the Old Testament as merely a history book of ancient Israel. In this short volume Chase develops a biblical theology of the Old Testament, as he traces the storyline of redemption in the history of God’s People.

The Freedom of Self Forgetfulness: The Path to True Christian Joy
by Timothy Keller (10Publishing, 2012)

In this short volume, Tim Keller teaches that believers must not view their lives through the lens of self, but rather should process and center all things upon Christ. Doing so, argues Keller, will create freedom and joy.

Sarah Edwards: Delighting in God
by Sharon James (10Publishing, 2023)

Many Christians are familiar with works of theologian Jonathan Edwards. In this book James offers a look into the life of Jonathan Edwards’ wife, Sarah, whom Edwards referred to as the most holy person whom he had ever met.

Faithful Witness: Life and Mission of William Carey
by Timothy George (New Hope Pub, 1991)

Pioneering missionary William Carey is rightly known as the father of modern missions. Faithful Witness is probably the best in-print biography of Carey and will surely encourage all believers in the walk with Christ.
