This summer, we want to help you craft the perfect Summer Reading List. We asked Southeastern Seminary professors what books they would recommend, and we’ll share their recommendations in coming weeks.
Today, Scott Hildreth shares his own summer reading list.
A Survey of World Missions
By Robin Hadaway (B&H, 2020)
Hildreth: Robin is a colleague and missions professor at Midwestern Seminary. I skimmed this book to write a review of it, but I am looking forward to “sitting in it” and reading it more slowly this summer BOTH as a source for my teaching, but also as a way of feeding my soul and fueling my passion for global missions.
40 Questions About the Great Commission
By Daniel Akin, Ben Merkle and George Robinson (Kregel Academic, 2020)
Hildreth: I have been looking forward to reading this book for over a year. This book is from our President and several Southeastern Seminary professors. This is an exciting contribution to the discussion about missions and the Great Commission.
Digital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World
By Cal Newport (Portfolio, 2019)
Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World
By Cal Newport (Grand Central Publishing, 2016)
Hildreth: Both of these books from Cal Newport are a challenge to make the most of the opportunities that are in front of us each day. As we have moved to remote working and virtual living, I am looking forward to Newport’s guidance to not get sucked it shallow living or letting the digital (social media/virtual) world have an unhealthy impact on my life.
