An Evangelical Account of Gender | John Hammett’s Summer Reading Recommendations

As summer begins, we want to help you craft the perfect Summer Reading List. We asked Southeastern Seminary professors what books they would recommend, and we’ve been sharing their recommendations.

Today, Dr. John Hammett recommends a book for your summer reading list.

Though writing of very complex issues, he writes with admirable clarity.

Gender as Love: A Theological Account of Human Identity, Embodied Desire, and our Social Worlds
by Fellipe do Vale (Baker, 2023)

I recently finished Gender as Love: A Theological Account of Human Identity, Embodied Desire, and our Social Worlds by Fellipe do Vale. It is a very sophisticated, evangelical account of gender that deals with opposing positions with grace and humility. It introduces the reader to feminist and mainline thinkers on this topic and gives a charitable account of their views, yet shows their shortcomings. Though writing of very complex issues, he writes with admirable clarity. Highly recommended.
