Christ and Culture Style Guide
(updated: Jul. 2025)

Christ and Culture is The L. Russ Bush Center for Faith and Culture’s hub for resources and commentary about issues at the juncture of faith, culture, science, work, economics and more. These brief details can guide your writing:

Style Guide, at a Glance

  • Be brief. Aim for 800-1000 words.
  • Be conversational. Write to everyday Christians, from the pulpit to the pew.
  • Be “you-focused.” Focus on your readers, and use personal pronouns.
  • Be polished. Proofread, self-edit and revise your draft prior to submission.
  • Be watchful. Please follow a few rules.
    – At the top of your submission include your name and the title for the article
    –  Do not capitalize pronouns for God. “he, him” not “He, Him”
    – Avoid contractions
    – Single space after periods

Content

Your article should relate to the intersection of faith and culture. Help Christians better understand how faith matters to the rest of their lives, and equip them to connect the Great Commission to these aspects.

Articles will fall into one of three categories:

1. Equipping
Equipping articles aim to equip ministry leaders to advance the way of Christ in all of culture by 1. clarifying a particular cultural issue, 2. identifying the challenge it presents to Christians and the Church, and 3. offering a way forward for Christians and ministry leaders. These are typically short-form and not comprehensive in nature.

2. Perspectives
Perspectives is our opinion section that represents a respectable viewpoint on an important cultural issue. These articles do not necessarily reflect the view of Southeastern or the Center for Faith and Culture, yet offer a viewpoint from within the Christian tradition worthy of consideration and charity.

3. Resources
Resources are summaries, reviews, and/or reflections on books and other resources related to faith and culture, apologetics, ethics, public theology, and related content per our monthly themes.  These are typically short-form and not comprehensive in nature.

Since Christ and Culture is a blog of Southeastern Seminary, our content must be consistent with Southeastern Seminary’s confessional documents and the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.

Articles published at the CFC have been republished by The Gospel Coalition, The Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, Church Leaders, The Biblical Recorder, and more, and they’ve been translated in at least two other languages.
