Finding the Right Hills to Die On: The Case for Theological Triage
by Gavin Ortlund (Crossway, 2020)
This is a quick read with some very good ideas on how to do “theological triage.” That is, it helps the reader determine what issues are first, second, and third order issues and give practical ideas on how to address them with others in an appropriate manner.
The Toxic War on Masculinity: How Christianity Reconciles the Sexes
by Nancy Pearcy (Baker, 2023)
This book is a great resource for understanding the culture war taking place both inside and outside the church against men and masculinity. I especially appreciated that it is written by woman of high academic regard. Pearcy does a great job of laying out both the current problem as well as the history of its evolution. In a post-Barbie movie world, this is a must read. The first chapter is worth the price of the book.
God and the Transgender Debate
by Andrew T. Walker (Good Book Company, 2017)
Andrew Walker’s helpful little book does a great job introducing the issues related to the hottest topic is culture and clearly articulates a great biblical response with nuance and care. The reader may not agree with 100% of the book, but the tone and flow are models of how to treat a topic with care and biblically informed ethical insight.
The 3 Big Questions for a Frantic Family: A Leadership Fable… About Restoring Sanity To The Most Important Organization In Your Life
by Patrick Lencioni (Jossey-Bass, 2008)
This is a very quick read and a really helpful book for husbands and wives to read and discuss together. I highly recommend it for singles, families of small children, middle passage teenager families, and empty nesters. The concepts are simple yet profound for taking control of schedules and making wise decisions that help families “live on purpose.”
The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics
by Daniel James Brown (Penguin Books, 2014)
If you haven’t seen the movie (or even if you have) this is a fun summer read and a page turner. Based on a true story of an underdog rowing team finding Olympic triumph.
